Web 2.0 is intimidating to me a little. Web 2.0 is bringing about wiki's, podcasting, blogs, etc. I have no previous experience using these except in graduate classes. I do not use facebook or my space. I have interacted a bit with TeacherPop but not much. I do not enjoy blogging to keep in touch. I prefer email or the telephone, but that is changing. I see Web 2.0 changing the dynamics of a classroom. "School 2.0" will evolve over time. It means a classroom filled with blogging, wiki's and classroom social networks. Classroom webpages have received big pushes but Web 2.0 offers the novice user the opportunity to post whatever. I feel Web 2.0 is going to create more creativity in the classroom and expose students to real world technologies.
Schools of the future will have to restructure teacher workshops to involve technology and the new tools available on the web to be used in the classroom. Schools will have to plan to train the generational gap teachers. Eventually teachers taking over the schools in about 10 years will already know how to use the tools, but in the interim the buy in will vary. Schools with more money for technology will embrace Web 2.0 because they will have the means.

The experiences that we have had are going to prepare us for what's to come in our new world of technology. However, I do find web 2.0 somewhat overwhelming. I love finding new gadgets to play with, but when it comes to the wikis, podcasts, and blogs, I'm a true beginner. I think all of these tools have their place in society, but I still prefer to call or e-mail in order to keep in touch.
I’m right there with you Lynette. I don’t do facebook or myspace, and, up until this point, I have never been inclined to participate in blogs and prefer to communicate through e-mail. I am in my late 20s, which means I am part of the “newer generation” of teachers who have always had a computer at my disposal. However, I am pretty unfamiliar with Web 2.0 tools. I think even the newer teachers will need training on how to use these tools. I am learning something about blogging because of the “Thing #4” assignment, which forces us to blog. I am learning that blogging isn’t so bad after all, and that it creates a different kind of atmosphere from the one that is created from the discussion board. Perhaps I should also look into facebook, so that, at the very least, I can understand what the students are talking about. Like blogging, I have a feeling that I truly won’t understand it until I try it. It’s exciting to think about a classroom filled with students working on wikis, podcasts, blogs, and the like. It is definitely overwhelming, though.
I have to agree that the web 2.0 is a little over whelming. I think that it has great tools to offer that as teachers will come in very handy and help us to prepare our students for the future but right now I am somewhat overwhelmed by a lot of it. I am use to communication through email. I am finding that I am becoming addicted to some of the tools that web 2.0 has to offer. I think that the more that I can learn the more that I will be able to use these tools in my classroom.
